| Oilers 4 - Coyotes 0 - No free burrito for Shane Doan
Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers upset the Phoneix Coyotes by a score four to nothing. Three numbers were the story of this game: 0.1, 1, and 100. Unlike during the recent loss to Chicago, tonight Shawn Horcoff's tip-in on the powerplay was on the right side of a hundredth of second on the clock. After hearing about Dwayne Roloson's incredible 58 save night, 36 does sound somewhat tame in comparison. However, Deslauriers managed to stop the barrage of rubber fired at him for his first career shut-out. Ales Hemsky reached his 100th goal marker on the night with a slick passing play from Dustin Penner. Game Recap: Even the PPV announcers speculated that Shane Doan was aware that Kevin Lowe was watching the hockey game. Shane Doan looked dangerous all-night but was kept off the scoreboard along with the rest of Coyotes. That left the Coyotes fans three goals shy of a free Burrito Supreme from Taco Bell,. Go ahead, blame Deslauriers for depriving them of free food. The first period initially didn't start off very well for the Oilers. They were hemmed in their own zone for seemingly half the period. Turnovers in their zone? Yeah, there were plenty. After the game, Pat Quinn had this to say: You turn it over. Oh Geeze, here we go again. But we got by that. On a brighter note, Deslaurier's nerves seemed steadier than his recent games. No, we didn't have to bear witness to his seven minute reign of terror before he got settled into this one. The Oilers opened up the game scoring with a beautiful play that almost reminded me of Patrick Kane's goal on us last game. Visnovsky provided a long stretch pass up to Potulny who caught the captain with some speed. If Ethan Moreau would have had a mouth guard hanging half out of his mouth, his Patrick Kane impression would have been slightly better even still. Souray managed to score a lucky goal by getting the puck on net and watching Lombardi finish the job by firing it off another Coyote's skate into his own net. Seven seconds later, Penner and Hemsky made a slick passing play in which Hemsky used his trademarked deke to a backhand. Yes, it was a record setting night for our Oilers. Seven seconds marked the shorest gap between goal scoring in team history. The Oilers gained momentum during the second period and dominated the game pretty much everywhere but the shot clock (shots were 8-8 for the second period). Yes, Hemsky was flying during the second period tonight. Penner and Hemsky were both held scoreless the rest of the night, but they put on quite a show regardless. At times, Penner himself looked like a 245 lb version of Hemsky. Horcoff managed to beat the game clock by .1 second with a tip on a shot from Souray while the Oilers were on the powerplay. For the third period, the Oilers game started to unravel with Shane Doan trying to get his team back into the game. Though the were outshot 15-6 during this period, Deslauriers made a number of good-looking saves to hang on for the shutout. Unlike previous games, this time it seemed that he received some help with controlling rebounds from his team. After the game, Pat Quinn had this to say: We got fat and happy (after the 2nd period). I don't know why that would happen because we haven't done squat yet. Here's the game video highlights:
